Can the good times last? The business aviation market has been booming since the end of its last downturn in 2004. Manufacturers have large order backlogs and cannot make aircraft fast enough to meet the demand from a host of new operators. Business would seem to be good.
But despite this rosy outlook, there may be cause for concern. The economic slowdown in Europe and the US may put the brakes on the growth of business aviation, as cost-conscious companies think twice about the expense of airborne executives. New regulations may also cramp business style, especially as environmental concerns rise in importance. It is clear also that not all the new operators will last. Consolidation is inevitable, and over-capacity a concern.
