The past 12 months have been a mixture of new aircraft rollouts, sweeping boardroom changes and delayed aircraft programmes. This is a lot to digest, but exactly how much do investors and operators care about these events? The answer: quite a lot.
More than 105 industry experts voted in the 2007 Airfinance Journal Investors' and Operators' poll of aircraft families. We also asked them to comment on new aircraft programmes and how delayed aircraft delivery schedules impacted their investment decisions. The latter question revealed just how testing delays to the A380 programme have proved to be.
Most participants believe that delays are a non-issue in investment terms, with one commenting: "As a general matter, entry-into-service delays don't weigh into our investment decisions. We make our decisions with a long-term view and any issues resulting in delivery delays are short term."
