The manufacturer is cutting production of A320 family aircraft from October and is not ruling out further cuts, but says jobs will be unaffected.

Airbus is cutting production of the A320 family aircraft in response to the market slowdown.

From October, the manufacturer will build 24 fewer narrowbody aircraft per year, as it lowers production from 36 to 34 per month. In addition, a planned ramp-up in production of the A330/A340 family aircraft will be scrapped.

Airbus said the cut was a direct result of the aviation downturn and uncertainties caused by the global economic crisis.
