Business jet deliveries set to tumble

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association reports shipments down for the first time in five years, with business jets set to follow a 20% drop in piston aircraft deliveries.

Worldwide deliveries of general aviation aircraft are down by over 7% according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (Gama), the first drop in five years. The fall is accounted for by the piston-powered segment, which saw shipments down by a fifth year on year. While turboprops and business jets showed strong growth of over 15%, these seem likely to follow the piston drop off within 18 months.

Industry billings reached $24.8 billion, a 13% increase over 2007, but this reflects orders placed during the strong economic years of 2006 and 2007.
