BLP sets up new Singapore aviation practice

Berwin Leighton Paisner has set up a new aircraft finance practice in its existing office in Singapore, headed up by Tom Budgett.

BLP has established a new aircraft finance practice in its existing office in Singapore, building on the team’s asset finance practice in London.

Tom Budgett, partner at the firm, heads up the three-man team, with senior associates David and Davinia Brotherton, who are husband and wife.

“In the long-term the aim is to establish a full-service financial practice in Singapore, whilst the short-term objective is to concentrate on aircraft finance,” said Budgett, speaking, during a business trip, from the firm’s London offices.

Budgett says it is not usual in the legal profession to find a husband and wife working together. “Lawyers spend so much time in the office that they often end up marrying each other,” he said.

Whilst Budgett has extensive experience in cross-border leasing products, export credit and securitisations, David Brotherton has a broadly-based asset and Islamic finance background and Davinia specialises in banking and capital...
