K&L Gates opens Tokyo office

Three lawyers from Latham & Watkins’ Tokyo practice move to K&L Gates to set up a new Tokyo office and expand the firm’s airfinance practice in Asia.

K&L Gates is expanding its global practice by hiring Ryan Dwyer, Takahiro Kawaguchi and Robert Melson to head its Tokyo operations. All three join from Latham & Watkins’s Tokyo office, where they worked on airfinance transactions.

 

Dwyer specializes in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions, as well as international joint ventures and employment matters.

 

Kawaguchi, who focuses on operating leasing, is a Japanese lawyer and also licenced in New York law. He worked in London for a year with Linklaters.

 

Melson has more than 10 years’ experience in the Japanese operating lease market and built Latham & Watkins’ presence in that market.
